March Empties

Have to say I'm feeling quite pleased with myself this month. I've gone through quite a lot of stuff that has been lingering for a good while.  And now the products have been finished, I've recycled the packaging. Yay me! Apologies, but some of these pics were taken with my iPhone, so the quality is not so great in some shots. Sorry about that, but I haven't always got my camera handy and I cant bear the recycling to be hanging around that long!

So here are the empties for March;
  • Lush Tea Tree toner
  • Dove Visable Care softening shower cream
  • Elemis Tri-Enzyme facial wash (have another one of these in the wings...)
  • Alpha-H Balancing Cleanser (Same as above. Have a brand new bottle ready to open thanks to Caroline from Beauty Mouth - but more on that later....)

  • Philosophy Oatmeal Raisin 3 in 1 shower gel
  • No7 Total Renewal Microdermabrasion Scrub (LOVE this! Naturally there is a new one waiting to be opened)

  • Elemis Tri-Enzyme Resurfacing Gel Mask - love it! Back up is ready to be busted out of hiding.

  • L'Occitane Fleur de Cerisies hand cream. Love L'Occitane hand cream and this one was quite nice for the time of year.  I still prefer the Shea Butter one though.  These sizes are great for having in your handbag. I have them on my desk at work too.

  • Good Things Dream Cream

  • Tesco Vitamin E wipes
  • The Body Shop Nutriganics night cream

  • Clinique Dramatically Different moisturising lotion

  • The Body Shop Nutriganics daycream

  • The Body Shop Earth Lovers Apricot and Basil shower gel
  • Revlon ColourStay (combo/oily) foundation - The bottle looks full here, sadly it isn't!  I NEED a new bottle of this. I think it's fab!

  • Simple eye make-up remover
  • Philosophy Amazing Grace EDT
  • Joop Thrill EDT
  • Estee Lauder Sensuous EDP
What products have you said goodbye to this month?

Elemis Exotic Spa Ritual

Last night I decided I needed a bit of a pampering session.  A quick rummage through the shelves revealed the necessary ingredients for an Elemis Exotic Spa Ritual.  All of these Elemis products have been acquired from various TSV's, so it was kind of nice to use them all in conjunction with each other. Elemis Exotics are by no means the cheapest products on the market. But for luxury, they are right up there! The packaging is weighty and substantial, whilst still maintaining a sleek appearance.  A must for any bathroom shelf.

Also, this post kind of kills two birds with one stone.  The lovely Annabella (Skin Scrubs) had asked me about the Elemis Exotic Lime and Ginger scrub.  So Annabella, this post is dedicated to you!

First up, I used the Elemis Exotic Lime and Ginger scrub on dry skin. I do this because I like quite a gritty exfoliation.  This will not be for everyone, particularly those of you with sensitive skin, but it works for me.  I'm not a massive fan of citrus fruits to eat or to smell, but I think the ginger warms up the lime and makes it an entirely more pleasing experience for me.  It certainly is not a 'foodie' kind of smell.  Just very fresh and invigorating.

Elemis says; Invigorating Ginger stimulates the metabolism and tones the body, while Lime Peel works to energise, cleanse and purify the skin. Unrefined Sea Salt is uniquely blended with Kukui, Camellia and Jojoba oils to exfoliate and remineralise skin, helping it regain its natural moisture balance and silky softness.

I did also notice that this scrub didn't appear to be very oily.  Now for me, this is a good thing.  I am a disaster area at the best of times and oil in the bath/shower could be disasteriffic for me.  It appeared to be quite dry, although as I mentioned I used it on dry skin.  Perhaps if it was used on slightly damp skin (as the packaging suggests), you might have slightly more manoeuvrability.  That being said, once I got to work it into the skin, paying particular attention to my problem areas natural oils were released and the scrub moved fairly effortlessly around the body.

Once I had been scrubbed to within an inch of my life, I soaked into a nice hot bath and the grains of sea salt dissipated into the warm water, leaving my skin enriched with the scented oils.  I wallowed there for a while and when I began to resemble a prune I moved onto the next stage.

The Exotic Frangipani Monoi Bath and Shower Cream is quite simply divine! Creamy, luxurious and beautifully scented. I cannot say enough good things about this product.  This is not something I use every day. It's a 'treat' to use it and I cannot get enough of the scent!

Anyway, Elemis says: Enjoy a moment in paradise! Envelop your body with this exotic infusion of Tahitian Monoi Oil fragranced with Frangipani flowers. Perfect for thirsty skin, this deeply hydrating cream wash gently cleanses, leaving your body beautifully soft and delicately fragranced.  Ideal for shaving, this multi-purpose product is a must have in any bathroom. Suitable for sensitive and very dry skin. Free from Sodium Laureth Sulphate and Parabens.

Once this product is combined with water it makes the most beautiful milky bubbles, that do not feel in the least bit harsh on your skin.  There are products out there that leave me feeling itchy/scratchy when I get out of the bath. Not this one.  I could probably go without any form of moisturiser if I had to. But this is a at home spa ritual. Why would I want to do that?!?

And so, when I dragged myself from the bath I headed straight for the Exotic Frangipani Monoi Moisture Melt.  Sadly, I only have a tiny bottle of this, so it is seriously rationed! The oil is solid at room temperature, so I popped  it into a bowl of warm water (with the lid on!) prior to me jumping in the bath.  This ensures that by the time you emerge from your lovely bath, the oil is ready to go.

Elemis says: Intoxicate the senses with an exotic blend of Coconut Coprah Oil and sweet scented Frangipani flowers. This exquisite treatment oil has long-lasting hydration properties to seal in moisture and leave skin silky soft. Can be used as an intensive conditioning treatment for hair and nails.

Sorry there are no pictures of the oil. But all the photo's we taken after the event and I couldn't be bothered to wait for the oil to warm up.  Me - Disaster area - oily hands - camera in bath - AAARRRGGGHHH!!!! You get the idea. There it is, the truth is out there!

If you think this might be something you'd like to try, I found the Elemis 4 piece Exotic Shower Treats on QVC for £55.50.  Please bear in mind that they are mainly full size products in this kit and the price reflects this.  The only smaller size product is the Lime and Ginger scrub, which is the same size as the one I have (not the big 400ml jar).  Alternatively, Feelunique.com have the Elemis Exotic Spa Secrets kit for £49.50 which offers you the chance to try the Skin Nourishing Milk Bath instead of the scrub.  You can also buy Elemis products on their own website timetospa.co.uk to take advantage of their Spring Sale on purchases before the 31st March.  Actually, I just noticed that the Spa Secrets kit is now £35 on there, so perhaps it's time to allow yourself a bit of indulgent bath/body care. Or treat your Mum to an Elemis kit for Mothers Day.

Annabella, does that help??

The Weight of the (Cosmetic) World on your Shoulders

I found an abandoned Radley lurking about the house last week.  One I hadn't used since I got my Dora just after Christmas.  I was about to put it back in the little pink dustbag, when I thought - this feels a bit heavy?! Upon further inspection, the contents of my bag can be found here. This is quite clearly an extreme case. I usually end up orphaning a lip gloss or two during the great handbag change, but nothing usually to this extent. On the plus side, I've found lots of MIA make up and it's now returned to proper circulation.

My Mother is always telling me that my handbag is too heavy and that I am going to damage my neck and back.  And right now, I agree with her.  Why I was carrying all this stuff round with me was quite beyond me!

Firstly, you know I'm obsessed with lip gloss, lip balms, lip stains.... and now lipsticks. But why oh why did I have 10 different lip products with me?? 1 lip balm, 4 lip stains, 2 lipsticks, 2 lip glosses and a lip tar. Any ideas? No, I'm flummoxed too!  In fairness, the 3 unopened Cover Girl lip stains (extreme right of the picture) came from my friend who had been home to Texas, So I can discount them...can't I?

Then came the Bare Escentuals foundation and the Well Rested eye shadow along with a BE Flawless Face and Concealer brush.

My finale was a Max Factor Miracle Touch cream blush and a Sleek Rose Gold powder blusher. Basically, I could have applied a full make-up (minus mascara) from what was left unloved and untouched in my handbag.

This is indeed a shameful tale. Please tell me that someone else does this, or I'm going to feel really bad!!

Soap & Glory Pamper Proof Set

I've had my gorgeous Uni girls visiting this weekend.  I've had such a lovely time with them, catching up and hearing about my friend's engagement proposal! These are indeed exciting times.

As it's been so long since all 5 of us had been together, my lovely newly-engaged friend Una,  bought me a beautifully wrapped belated birthday present.  And when I could resist the gorgeous wrapping no more, this is what I found.  The Soap & Glory Pamper Proof set.

This kit is perfect, as I've been wanting to try out more products from the Soap & Glory range.  The set includes The Daily Smooth body butter,  Clean Girls bodywash, Scrub em and Leave em body scrub and Mist you Madly body mist.  The kit also comes with the most enormous body puff/water lilly.  Now, when we were in NYC, we found a mammoth body puff in CVS.  But sadly we forgot to pack it and it was left at the hotel.  The one's we get in the UK are tiny, so I am glad that I'll get to have this one at home now.

The other great addition to this set is the Hair Turban.  I have to say, I love these! I used to have a few and they have all magically disappeared.  You wrap your wet hair with the turban instead of a towel. I find that my hair dries much faster if I have been using one of those.

I'm really excited to give these products a go.  I know Annabella over at Skin Scrubs has been enjoying the Soap & Glory Sugar Crush body scrub , anyone else have a favourite Soap & Glory product?

Ding Dong - Avon Calling!

I've regressed to my childhood, pouring over the Avon catalogue. Only nowadays the iconic catalogue can be viewed online. Oh how the times have changed....

I posted that Avon had some fabulous offers in the clearance section.  And here is what I got.  Firstly, I picked up 2 of the SuperShock mascara's, I didnt bother opening these. Everyone has seen them before. They are in limited edition packaging, but I don't care about that either.  I like the mascara and it was a mere £2.75.  They had to be mine.

Next to tumble into my basket was the Smooth Minerals lipstick  and I chose the colours Crystal Coral (top) and Apricot Glow (below).  They both appear much more vibrant than the swatches suggest.  However, I'm yet to try them so I cannot report if they a true representation or not.  These have been reduced from £8 to a purse loving £3.

Avon Smooth Minerals lipstick in Apricot Glow

I love the SuperShock gel liners shown here in Steel, Khaki and Plumful that are an amazing £2 at the moment! So I grabbed them all. Can you blame me?

(l-r) Steel, Khaki and Plumful - natural light

(l-r) Steel, Khaki and Plumful - flash
The last item is an eyeshadow quad that was on offer for £2.50 if you spent a tenner.  Obviously, I took advantage of that.  But I will show that little beauty in another post once it has been tried and tested.  Not least in the fact that I deleted the picture somehow and cannot  get it back, no siree!

I'm really loving Avon and their products at the moment. Any fab products that you think I should road test?

Liebster Blog Award

The lovely Annabella over at Skin Scrubs called me the QVC beauty guide (I wish!) and bestowed the Liebster Blog award to little old me. Naturally I was delighted to receive it.  Thanks Annabella.  If you don't read Skin Scrubs, then what are you doing with your time? This lady is knowledgeable to the Nth degree about skincare. Go on, pop over an take a look. She wont bite...or will she!?!

Anyway, the Liebster Award is designed to bring well deserved additional recognition to those bloggers with less than 300 followers.  If you receive the award you link back to the blogger that nominated you and nominate 3 more blogs.  All sounds pretty great to me.

Therefore, I nominate;-

  • Jeanie over at Makeup Merriment  who loves a bit of Chanel and is my Bare Escentuals buddie.  I always have a serious case of the green eyed monster when reading her blog! This lady has some high end tastes!!
  • Stacie at Kawaii Nail Art creates the most beautiful nail art you've ever seen. It's gorgeous and totally kawaii. She's inspiring me to do something a little more adventurous than simply painting my nails.
  • My final nomination goes to the divine Kenneth Soh from Musings of a Makeup Artist. He's new to the blogging community, but he has a wealth of experience as a professional MUA.  His portfolio is amazing.  Quite simply,  I'm in awe of his talent. He's super nice and will help you with any make up question you may have.  He is also my fellow True Blood perve. Hmmmmm Eric or Alcide....?
So there we have it and I have done my part to 'pay it forward'.  Enjoy these fantastic blogs. I know I do.

Lazy Girl Manicure

I know, I know.  You've seen it done to death on YouTube and the Blogsphere.  But this was a desperate attempt at sorting out my manicure for work when I didn't have time to repaint my nails.  I grabbed the bottle of Barry M shatter polish and hoped for the best.

I have to say, I love the result.  I already had Nails Inc Berkeley Street on my nails, which is the most gorgeous vibrant Tiffany blue/green.  But the tip wear was shocking. Well, I had it on for a week, what did I expect?!  Anyway, I think that contrasting Berkeley Street with the black shatter made for a very speedy and eye-catching manicure.

I'm looking forward to the Models Own shatter polishes that are due to be released next month.  That will give me yet more options for lazy girl manicures!

What are your favourite colour combinations for the current shatter polish craze?

I Love love-makeup.co.uk

A little parcel of loveliness arrived  last week from love-makeup.co.uk I've been wanting to try NYX products, well, forever! And then I spotted that they have begun to stock Crown Brushes on their site.  Naturally, I was interested to give them a whirl too.

First up, NYX Mega Shine lip gloss in African Queen (left) and Candy Shop (right).

NYX Round Lipstick in Femme

NYX Round Lipstick in Thalia

Crown C138 Round Contour brush

Crown C139 Stiff Tapered Crease brush. I have no idea why this picture insists on being portrait, when quite clearly it should be landscape.  I've been playing about with it for the last 15 minutes and have given up trying to make it obey my will.  Sorry if that annoys you! I know it annoys me. I like uniformity but its driving me round the twist!!!

This Crown brush came without a number/name on the handle. Not sure if that is right or not? I also can't remember what it was called.  Maybe a Pencil brush? You get the general idea from the picture though.

Last one was a Crown C431 Precision Detail brush.

I haven't really had chance to play around with these yet.  I'm still sorting out my sore/dry lip issue.  But once that is under control I may do some lip swatches.  The Crown brushes all seem really soft and at less that £3 a brush, they were a bargain. In fact, I think my whole order was a little over £20. I think that is great! And the delivery was super quick too.

What is your favourite NYX product and which Crown brush should I try next? Ideas please!

Benefit - Bella Bamba

I found a lonesome gift voucher from Christmas that escaped the OCD perfume buying frenzy. So I decided that I needed a new product and Bella Bamba caught my eye.  I mean, look at the packaging. How could you ignore this?!?

Benefit says "Amplify cheekbones and create the illusion of sculpted features with this 3D watermelon blush. Laced with shimmering gold undertones, Bella Bamba is taking eye popping pretty to the third dimension...you'll never use traditional blush again!"

This is a really flattering pink shade with some shimmer (not glitter!).  It really adds something to my skin-tone. I have to say, I really like it. I'm not sure about the 3D effect though, but it certainly makes me look refreshed and awake! That's got to be good, right?

I then started thinking about Benefit 'Coralista' which I love. As you can see, Benefit have changed their packaging for their latest release. I know there are some people who don't like the traditional 'box' packaging of Benefit blushers, but it has never been a problem for me.  Bella Bamba has a flip top lid and the inclusion of a mirror. Useful if you are taking it out and about with you.

The picture below is deceptive and makes both products seem to be kind of similar tones, when quite clearly they aren't.  So I began swatching.  It began by looking at Bella Bamba and Coralista together.  Then I discovered 2 other products from other ranges that are not totally dissimilar to the pink and coral shades of the Benefit products.

So now, we have this..

Bare Escentuals blush 'Irresistible' , Benefit 'Bella Bamba', Benefit 'Coralista' and Max Factor eye-shadow 'Coral Jungle' - In packaging with flash.

Swatches - Bare Escentuals blush 'Irresistible' , Benefit 'Bella Bamba', Benefit 'Coralista' and Max Factor eye-shadow 'Coral Jungle' - Natural light

Swatches - Bare Escentuals 'Irresistible' , Benefit 'Bella Bamba', Benefit 'Coralista' and Max Factor eye-shadow 'Coral Jungle' - With flash.

I have no idea why I started playing about like that, I just thought it might be useful to someone. Or maybe I just enjoyed doing it.  Who knows!  All the products shown above provide a nice bloom to the skin.  They all have a certain sheen and slight shimmer, but no glitter.  Bella Bamba looks slightly  glittery in the pan, but this does not translate onto the skin. Either way, I'm hooked. I love Bella Bamba.

I have to say that the Max Factor eye-shadow in Coral Jungle makes a gorgeous blusher. I know that might sound a bit weird to some people, but it does. I have had it for ages and never really thought it would work on my eyes, until I saw the Chanel Spring 2011 promo images. The model is wearing a gorgeous peachy/grey smoky eye, which is just beautiful. I think I might have a try at that one. And if it doesn't work, I will continue to use it as a blusher.

Do you have any products that you use in a non-conventional way? Or do you always play by the rules?

Friday Quickie 2: Avon Sale!

I'm blaming my first Friday Quickie post on this.  But when I went to check the price of the Rose Ribbons lipstick, I noticed that Avon has a sale on.   The SuperShock liners (which I love!) in Khaki, Plumful and Steel are a mere £2 each! I only have the black, so I am excited to try out these colours.  And the SuperShock mascara (which I also love!) a meagre £2.75 - Bargain!  Plus there are lots of other offers on, so check them out.

I've just put in an order for a few bits and pieces. Also might be worth mentioning that if you spend £20 or more, you can use the code KWG for free delivery. Now I really am going back to the cleaning!

Happy Shopping

Friday Quickie: Avon Ultra Colour Rich Moisture Seduction Lipstick - Rose Ribbons

How pretty is this lipstick?  Seriously, it's cool isn't it?  The name is a bit of a mouthful though!!

I picked this lipstick from Avon on a whim and whilst Rose Ribbons is not usually a colour I would go for, I'm glad I did.  I can't really comment on its moisturising capabilities, I don't wear enough lipstick to compare it to any other brand.  What I can say is that it feels  very comfortable on my lips and lasts a reasonable amount of time before requiring re-application.  You can buy this lipstick from avon.co.uk for £6, or from an Avon representative.

It also makes me feel really Springy (thank you Debbie) when I am wearing it.  Sadly I now have to resume my previous task.  I've left the place looking like a bomb site (which was a supposed effort to spring clean) creating bags to go to the charity shop and a parcel for Give and Makeup . Coffee break is over.  Must get back to it!

Small Holiday Haul

I'm on holiday this week (whoop whoop) and the weekend heralded the start of a fabulous time with family and friends.  Saturday was my good, crazy friend Sarah (@sarahln) birthday celebrations which took us to LEAF for Afternoon Tea.  How civilised and British?!  Sorry to tell you though, I had coffee. Which further makes me think I was born in the wrong country!! The Boy ate his body weight in cake. I kid you not!  The Birthday Queen had a fabulous time, so that was the main thing.

Sunday gave me a rare opportunity to meet with Nic (@NicOCD) for mooching, Starbucks, lunch and cocktails.  Nic's 3 little angels keep her super busy, so I snatched the chance to catch up over a cocktail....or 3! We headed to MAC where I picked up a Cremeblend blush in 'So Sweet, So Easy' and a 130 brush that I've been lusting after.

So then we popped into The Body Shop, because I had seen the new Earth Lovers shower gel collections were on special offer.  I think it was buy one, get half off.  So I got 'Apricot & Basil' and 'Watermelon & Eucalyptus' scents.  I really wanted the 'Pear & Lemongrass' one too, but I was restrained.  I'll get that one next!  These little beauties are sulphate, colour,  paraben and soap free. They also smell divine, so I cannot wait to give them a whirl.

The Body Shop also were giving away the Vitamin C Microdemabrasion or a Vitamin E face mask (I think!) if you spent £15 on skincare. I really wanted to try the microdermabrasion, so it seemed the perfect opportunity.  I decided to try the Nutriganics cleansing gel when the SA showed us the consistency.  It was just like the Elemis Melting Cleansing Gel, transitioning from gel to oil on the skin.  I really like the Elemis product, so I thought I'd see how they compared.  I also got a Tea Tree mask to try out before I qualified for my freebie. Yay!!

Ooops! Forgot about this last product!  I'm obsessed with lip stains, must be something to do with my whole 'lazy girl' philosophy on beauty. Anyway,  so I wanted to try this and it's ok but I'm not wowed.  It has quite a silky texture, which I like. But it is really nothing special.  And considering it was a tenner, I think there are better and cheaper lip stains out there (Max Factor).  Sorry, did I mention that it was a lip and cheek stain? Haven't tried it on cheeks yet, so I will reserve total judgement.  But it's not looking good at the moment....

Flash forward to yesterday.  The Boy took the day off and suggested that we went to the Trafford Centre for a spot of lunch and mooching.  Well the only thing I got while I was there was medicated lip balm!! Is that sad?  My lips have been really sore and Nic suggested Blistex 'Relief Cream'.  As Superdrug had a 3 for 2, it would have been rude not to.

Have to say I'm OBSESSED with the Blistex 'Lip Massage'.  Those little rubbery ridges are just perfect for gently buffing away dry and flaky skin.  I have been using the 'Relief Cream' for an intensive moisturising hit and then applying the balm from the lip massage tube and buffing away over the lips. Ingenious and much nicer to use than that messy lip scrub from Lush.

So nothing much to speak of from the Trafford Centre, but the main thing was that I had a really nice day spending quality time with The Boy.

What did you get up to over the weekend? Anything to report? Bargains to be had? C'mon, fill me in!
