The Scent of a Woman: Dior Addict EDP and Addict Shine EDT

.

Yet another sultry, sexy fragrance from my collection.  I really like Dior Addict EDP (Dark blue bottle).  I find this is another fragrance has such an amazing longevity on my skin. I'm not sure if that would last like that on everyone's skin, but it certainly does for me.  Most people would keep this for evenings only - not me though. I wear this all day, all year round and in fact, its been hauled out of the drawer as the weather has got a little more chilly. I am loving it all over again.  It reminds me of Christmas and I'm really not sure why. Yes, I'm weird. I know this.

Anywhoo, the Dior website says:

A sophisticated oriental fragrance with a floral heart, for the passionate, intuitive woman who ignores dictates and follows her own rules. The Dior Addict attitude is best incarnated by its compelling heart note of the Jamaican " Queen of the Night " a rare and elusive flower that blooms only for a few hours and is considered the soul of enchantment. Intensely seductive.

And the he Boots website says:

TOP NOTE: All Mediterranean countries grow mandarin trees, but the best mandarins are produced in Sicily. The different colors of mandarin, yellow, green and red, correspond to the different stages of ripeness. Essence of mandarin is a citrus note, offering fragrances a fresh and fruity accent. Mandarin is the exotic top note of Dior Addict Eau de Parfum.
HEART NOTE: The "Queen of the Night" flowers of the Selenicereus cactus open only at night. These large flowers with long, thin outer petals generally bloom in the summer. The flower only opens once, from night-time to dawn, giving off a powerful fragrance. The exact origin of the Selenicereus is unknown but probably comes from Mexico, Brazil or the Greater Antilles.
BASE NOTE: The white vanilla flowers produce a fruit that ripens in 8 to 9 months. Vanilla beans are harvested just before they are ripe and undergo a ripening process for 34 months. Their fragrance develops and vanilla crystals form to unfold vanilla's sweet and spicy accords. This serene, sensual scent is featured as a base note in Dior Addict Eau de Parfum.

Dior Addict Shine (large pink bottle) EDT was a duty-free present from the Parental Units quite a few years ago.  To be honest, I don't like this one quite as much at the original Addict, its a bit floral for my liking and doesn't meet the criteria of my fragrance analysis . That's not to say that I hate it, I certainly don't. But there are other fragrances that I will reach for before Addict Shine, such as its big sexy sister Addict (ooooh that sounds just like me! LOL!) . Needless to say, I never look a gift horse in the mouth!! Thank you Parentals, but if you are buying me perfume on a whim, I've got a list as long as my arm for you to choose from... ;o)

The Boots website says:

Inspired by the Dior Girly collection, this tangy fruity-floral incarnates a bubble of optimism and mischievous femininity for the innocently sexy girl. High-energy yet soft and playfully seductive, this fragrance sparkles with notes of citrus followed by a heart of delicate freesia and grenadine and a subtle white musk drydown.

Grown in southern Italy, the essence of bergamot is obtained by cold expression of peel. It brings a distinct, sweet freshness to fragrances and adds a special radiance to citrus notes.
Freesia is a delicate plant with a radiant floral fragrance of jasmine and orange blossom. Its delicateness and freshness feature as the heart note of Tendre Poison and Dior Addict 2

Have you tried either of these Dior Darling's?  What do you think?

  1. I have tried Dior Addict (Dark Blue) and I absolutely adore it. It is my winter perfum! I know it can be a bit heavy for some people but I feel good when I am wearing it.
Have you tried Pure Poison? It is also amazing!

  2. I've always had a bottle of the original 'Addict' in my collection since I was 17 - 8 years ago. It is almost unheard of that I stick by a perfume for so long! I think I bought my first bottle when it was launched.

I've recently just dug mine out too, for the colder days where I want something a little heavier and sensual.

Not tried Addict2, but the bottle alone says maybe i'll have to wait until summer to wear it! x x x

  3. @ Catanya, No, I haven't tried Pure Poison, what does it smell like??(wanders off to add to ever growing list....)x

@ WelshBeautyBlog That's a great word to sum it up, sensual. I totally agree. The Addict Shine doesn't have the same smell as the original Addict, so it may be something you like, or maybe not. Go to Boots and have a sniff x

Glad to see this is a firm favourite with everyone!

  4. Not tried this at all, I have a bit of a fear of deeper perfumes as I do have a tendancy to the perfume headache, but I will have a sniff, albeit a tentative one! Thanks for the post, I think you describe perfumes well, giving notes as well as your thoughts, much as I loved the Luca Turin book, I really had no idea what the perfumes smelt of! Jan

  5. Maybe this one wont be for you then Jan. You might like the Addict Shine, its lighter and being EDT will not hang around for as long. Out of interest ladies, what is your favourite perfume? x

  6. Nice idea for a "if you like this you might like this" blog post Leanne on the perfume front. Was a Fendi addict for years - am total fragrance snob and was put off by being able to buy it for a fiver in cheapy shops, moved to Alien which for me will always be our trip to Australia, even Em recognises it on other people and says "Emerald Hotel, Perth" as they walk past - got more comments with Alien than ever have with anything else, find it a tad too sweet now it has a real liquroice note to me, moved onto Gucci Gucci - the brown bottle, it was love, for a while, bigging up the Prada's now have Prada (in the pink box) and the Infusion de Tuberose, admittedly driven by packaging lust, loved it at first, now not so much, don't tell Steve! Am so obsessed with all things Prada I bought Steve the Prada for men - so we have an olfactory equilibrium we may miss in real life!

  7. @Debbie - I love Alien. I think its a really unique sent. I got in really cheap in Selfridges in Manchester a few years ago. I wondered why it was stupidly cheap (about £15 for 100ml) and assumed it must be vile. But I loved it. Wish I'd got more of it now!

My Aunty is like that with Eden (green bottle) by Cacherel. She always gets everyone asking her what she is wearing. And its usually that. Its her signature daytime scent and she keeps the big guns (Chanel, Gucci, Etc.) for evening.

The Boy didn't used to wear aftershave until he met me. He doesn't have a vast collection but I'm slowly but surely getting him there. I love men to smell nice. Then I start to wonder why he is wearing the good stuff for work, instead of just Lynx. Oh its such a double edged sword!! Suppose it's nice to Techies to get compliments on their choice of scent, usually they only ever get grief and moaning by people who have buggered their PC's. Bless his cotton socks.
